Of all the creative work produced by humans anywhere a tiny fraction has continuing commercial value. For that tiny fraction the copyright is a crucially important legal device.
If we change the definition of marriage to be more inclusive then it is logical to argue that we should broaden the definition so that won't exclude anyone.
