The best way to deal with that is to live in a fully conscious compassionate loving way. Don't wait until you're on your deathbed to recognize that this is the only way to live.
So that's why one of my rules of parody writing is that it's gotta be funny regardless of whether you know the source material. It has to work on its own merit.
