Science fiction writers foresee the inevitable and although problems and catastrophes may be inevitable solutions are not.

Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems.

I also don't have organized religion on Pern. I figured - since there were four holy wars going on at the time of writing - that religion was one problem Pern didn't need.
