I get so nervous on stage I can't help but talk. I try. I try telling my brain: stop sending words to the mouth. But I get nervous and turn into my grandma. Behind the eyes it's pure fear. I find it difficult to believe I'm going to be able to deliver.
We played in Texas about a year ago at Emo's the famous country and western club in Austin. And I figured well if I'm finally gonna die onstage that's where it's going to be!
That the work involved the willingness to take chances the commitment the opportunity to get on stage and make people happy was more important than becoming famous or even what I was dancing.
I'm not in the business of becoming famous. And that's the advice I give to younger aspiring actors. Work onstage and do the little roles. In the end it's not important to be seen. It's important to do. There's a lot of disappointment in this business but my family keeps me grounded.
I know really really famous people who are terrified every time they walk on to a stage.
I became famous so quickly and so young - it was daunting. I was immature and I used to say some really stupid things in interviews. I never smiled on stage so I looked really serious but it was because I hated my teeth and was incredibly nervous.
Touring is tough. You're almost in a haze because you don't really know where you are half the time: You're in a hotel room one moment and the next thing you know you're onstage performing for 60 000 people then you're back on an airplane. It's very hectic and I couldn't do it without my family.
The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family and this is not only acceptable but mandatory.
You can't do opera when already from the 10th row you can only see little dolls on the stage. In such an enormous space you can't put much faith in the personal presence of the individual singer which is reflected in facial expressions among other things.
Creativity is always a leap of faith. You're faced with a blank page blank easel or an empty stage.
I wouldn't go up on a stage now if you paid a thousand dollars for one minute of acting. It's a nasty experience. You're up there all by yourself. You're so damn exposed.
I started off on stage because it was the only work I could get. I haven't been back for 11 years. I think any stage experience is good experience as far as being an actor is concerned.
I think on-stage nudity is disgusting shameful and damaging to all things American. But if I were 22 with a great body it would be artistic tasteful patriotic and a progressive religious experience.
I'm not trying to be romantic. I think you can tell when people are trying to be sexy onstage. When I was doing 'All the Way ' I was really thinking about my wife. People don't know my personal experience but they can tell it's an honest interpretation.
We come altogether fresh and raw into the several stages of life and often find ourselves without experience despite our years.
I probably hold the distinction of being one movie star who by all laws of logic should never have made it. At each stage of my career I lacked the experience.
We do recognise the need to move towards the publication of information showing the progress made by pupils from one stage of their education to another.
For every fresh stage in our lives we need a fresh education and there is no stage for which so little educational preparation is made as that which follows the reproductive period.
I have actual dreams of Bruce Springsteen calling me up on stage to wear a bandanna and play rhythm guitar next to Little Steven.
When I began to choreograph and find my way pulling other artists' dreams out and changing music in a visual way there was still a part of me that had something more to say. There was still a desire to rock a stage and ultimately perform the eight count of my dream but there was a lot of insecurity there.
I mean every child at one stage dreams of being a prince or a princess.
For me I am still very happy to be able to do stage design as it's an opportunity to express the extreme.
I've always been a bit of a decorator. I think if I wasn't a singer I'd probably be in stage setting or interior design or something. I like clutter and I'm quite visually greedy. I can't have things to be plain I have to have things looking interesting... maybe I'm just a frustrated interior designer stuck in a singing career.
I was very interested in theatre mostly in stage design. I did a little bit of acting.
