If you can make people understand why freedom is so important through the arts that would be a big help.
I don't think that artists of any kind would or could sacrifice their artistic freedom by being more responsible with their influence on people especially young people.
Because if you lived as I did several years under Nazi totalitarianism and then 20 years in communist totalitarianism you would certainly realize how precious freedom is and how easy it is to lose your freedom.
For the past several years I have remained what others would consider underground. I did this in order to build a community of people like-minded in their desire for freedom and the right to pursue their goals and lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda.
Human beings want to be free and however long they may agree to stay locked up to stay oppressed there will come a time when they say 'That's it.' Suddenly they find themselves doing something that they never would have thought they would be doing simply because of the human instinct that makes them turn their face towards freedom.
To be honest I've always had far too much freedom. I had a job when I was 10. I started living on my own when I was 17 or 18. I've earned my own money I've traveled the world. What would I rebel against?
Once I know people know who I am it gives me a lot of licence and freedom to behave in ways I wouldn't normally.
A mere forty years ago beach volleyball was just beginning. No bureaucrat would have invented it and that's what freedom is all about.
Freedom means the opportunity to be what we never thought we would be.
God tolerates even our stammering and pardons our ignorance whenever something inadvertently escapes us - as indeed without this mercy there would be no freedom to pray.
I have no choice about whether or not I have Parkinson's. I have nothing but choices about how I react to it. In those choices there's freedom to do a lot of things in areas that I wouldn't have otherwise found myself in.
Freedom would be not to choose between black and white but to abjure such prescribed choices.
The words spoken by the leader of the free world can expand the frontiers of freedom or shrink them. When Ronald Reagan called on Gorbachev to 'tear down this wall ' a surge of confidence rose that would ultimately breach the bounds of the evil empire.
Freedom isn't free. It shouldn't be a bragging point that 'Oh I don't get involved in politics ' as if that makes someone cleaner. No that makes you derelict of duty in a republic. Liars and panderers in government would have a much harder time of it if so many people didn't insist on their right to remain ignorant and blindly agreeable.
Communists have always played an active role in the fight by colonial countries for their freedom because the short-term objects of Communism would always correspond with the long-term objects of freedom movements.
Violent means will give violent freedom. That would be a menace to the world and to India herself.
Freedom is never dear at any price. It is the breath of life. What would a man not pay for living?
I learned a long time ago that some people would rather die than forgive. It's a strange truth but forgiveness is a painful and difficult process. It's not something that happens overnight. It's an evolution of the heart.
I would say the hierarchy has made terrible errors in judgment and it has to seek forgiveness by its members.
I would say that playing this character has caused me to think about a lot of things. He's always questioning himself and trying to get back to something he lost touch with and trying to find forgiveness. Everybody struggles with these things to some extent in their life.
The schools would fail through their silence the Church through its forgiveness and the home through the denial and silence of the parents. The new generation has to hear what the older generation refuses to tell it.
In our short walks we passed the kitchen where food was prepared for the nurses and doctors. There we got glimpses of melons and grapes and all kinds of fruits beautiful white bread and nice meats and the hungry feeling would be increased tenfold.
Everyone would be healthier if they didn't eat junk food.
I would like to have you quote me Erich von Stroheim as having said on this day of this month of this year this one thing: you Americans are living on baby food.
I rise today to offer a formal and heartfelt apology to all the victims of lynching in our history and for the failure of the United States Senate to take action when action was most needed.
