I sat in at every club in New York City jamming with musicians because it felt right - and because it felt right and we were having fun - the people dancing and sipping their drinks in the clubs felt it too and it made them smile.

I'm part of the party getting the crowd fired up singing songs pouring drinks whatever it takes to get them to have a good time. When I walk into the meet-and-greet someone's always going to have a story a sad story or a happy story.

Clearly this is a tough economic time and a lot of families are hurting. So when we talk to parents we talk about small changes for kids and things that don't cost extra money. Like adding water and eliminating sugary drinks and sodas. That's going to save money right there. Or adding a few more vegetables.

I was a bartender for a long time so I know how to make drinks but I'm more likely to offer them than to have them. I think this is one of the reasons why I get to live longer than my great-grandmother did and why I get to produce more writing than she did and why my marriage isn't in dire straits.

When you meet someone new who instantly gets you your sense of humor and your attitudes and your worldview even if theirs are different - and you get them in return. You both talk and talk and agree and laugh and nod and yes yes of course you should get another round of drinks.

As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time that doesn't work for me. I'd just rather sit at home and read or go out to dinner with someone or talk to someone I love or talk to somebody that makes me laugh.

I speak onstage to try to establish some method of communication. The songs are supposed to be a way of communicating. But speech and drinks and sometimes chocolates are also a way of communicating.
