Most people get their politics obviously from TV shows about senators or movies about them or... all the day-to-day press and the talk shows.

Marriage is one of the most sacred human institutions. I asked our Senators as many South Dakotans have done to protect marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

I was one of 14 senators to vote against the Defense of Marriage Act. I thought it was a harsh and unnecessary thing to do to people across this country who care enough about each other to want to be married.

The House has passed several bipartisan bills to ensure all Americans have the opportunity to secure a good job to provide for their families. All of these jobs bills deserve the support of our Senators and a strong show of leadership from the president.

I think the Democrats are catering to them but you know in the entire history of the United States of America there has never been a judge who has been refused a vote when there was a majority of Senators willing to vote for his confirmation never in history.

Look all this is about is utilizing the rules of the Senate using a majority of the senators to make sure that we get health reform done. We cannot wait another day.

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials but the voters of this country.

The reason there are two senators for each state is so that one can be the designated driver.
