My background is in hardware design. I found hardware work to be a welcome change from thousands of hours of programming and that led to the designs you mentioned.

I'm not into politics but I am committed to a cause: ensuring design technology and engineering stays on the U.K. curriculum alongside science and maths - grounding abstract theory merging the practical with the academic.

My dad was dean of fine arts at the university. I was casting bronzes in the school foundry. I was using the university as a playground.

My father came from a very poor background but I was very fortunate in the sense that we were never in need. My dad was determined to make sure that we didn't want for things. He wanted to give us more opportunity than he had a better shot at a better life.

My father was grounded a very meat-and-potatoes man. He was a baker.

I don't want to stay underground for just the cool people.

We used to play the underground clubs like the UFO and Middle Earth and they were great because they would have on things like a poet string quartets and then a rock band! It was kinda cool!

I am super-proud to have a sort of famous character in my background that if you're a certain age he was probably a part of your youth. I think that's pretty cool.

I influenced the BG style by not being able to draw perspective. The BG artists developed cool graphic painting styles to make my bad backgrounds look like they were that way on purpose.

Someone once told me that something they really liked about me was that they thought that I was really down to earth and not high-maintenance. I think that was cool. It's important to stay grounded.

Cynicism is kind of like folding your arms and stepping back and commenting on things like the old guys in 'The Muppets ' just throwing out comments all the time whereas there are other people on the ground really trying to affect things and improve their lives and the lives of other people. I think it's noble and I think it's cool.

And it's absolutely true that male sexual behaviour and female responses to male demands change a lot when they start communicating - and the levels of the communication that I've seen on the ground in very very poor areas are so high and I think why don't we have that here?

I didn't want to go out and change anything. I just wanted to make the music that was part of my background which was rock and blues and hip-hop.
