I do not - I never believed it's better to kill a terrorist than to detain him. We want to detain as many terrorists as possible so we can elicit the intelligence from them in the appropriate manner so that we can disrupt follow-on terrorist attacks.

We can't gather the intelligence we need to foil future attacks if we are blindly granting terrorists the right to remain silent. But for some reason we've already done that - with the terrorist who tried to bring down Flight 253.

I can tell you that the Canadian intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been providing outstanding co-operation with our intelligence and law enforcement agencies as we work together to track down terrorists here in North America and put them out of commission.

These are Canadian and United States intelligence and law enforcement offices who are working in teams and who are using good intelligence and good law enforcement to really stop the criminals and terrorists before they ever get to the border.

The relevance for 9/11 is that what 9/11 marked was the beginning of a struggle in which the terrorists come at us and strike us here on our home territory. And it's a global operation. It doesn't know national boundaries or national borders.

Any government that supports protects or harbours terrorists is complicit in the murder of the innocent and equally guilty of terrorist crimes.

To stop terrorists before the strike we must do three things: deny them entry into the country curtail their freedom of action inside the country and deprive them of material and moral support from within the country.

Not to mention the fact that of course terrorists hate freedom. I think they do hate. But believe me I don't think they sit there abstractly hating freedom.

They call them terrorists I call them freedom fighters.

You learn that you either are going to have a police state where you don't have any freedom left or you're going to build a world that doesn't create terrorists - and that means a whole different way of 'getting along.'

If the events of September 11 2001 have proven anything it's that the terrorists can attack us but they can't take away what makes us American - our freedom our liberty our civil rights. No only Attorney General John Ashcroft can do that.

The very idea of freedom incites fear in the hearts of terrorists across the world.

Every nation has to either be with us or against us. Those who harbor terrorists or who finance them are going to pay a price.

What is more comforting to the terrorists around the world: the failure to pass the 9/11 legislation because we lacked 'a majority of the majority ' or putting aside partisan politics to enact tough new legislation with America's security foremost in mind?

Where terrorists offer injustice disorder and destruction the United States and its allies stand for freedom fairness equality hope and opportunity.

Illegal immigration is crisis for our country. It is an open door for drugs criminals and potential terrorists to enter our country. It is straining our economy adding costs to our judicial healthcare and education systems.

Just two weeks ago millions of Iraqis defied the threats of terrorists and went to the polls to determine their own future. I congratulate the Iraqi people for the courage they've shown in making these elections so successful.

I told you I'm not going to criticize my successor. I'll just tell you that there are people at Gitmo that will kill American people at a drop of a hat and I don't believe that persuasion isn't going to work. Therapy isn't going to cause terrorists to change their mind.

I think Islam has been hijacked by the idea that all Muslims are terrorists that Islam is about hate about war about jihad - I think that hijacks the spirituality and beauty that exists within Islam. I believe in allowing Islam to be seen in context and in its entirety and being judged on what it really is not what you think it is.

Iran has long sponsored terrorists who carry out homicide bombings in Israeli cities. However it is a mistake to believe the danger Iran poses is directed at Israel alone.
