The only reason to be in politics is public service. There's no other reason. Frankly if that's the best job you can get in terms of money that's too bad you know. Because frankly it's not well paid everyone knows that. So for most people it's a big sacrifice.
Politics and the pulpit are terms that have little agreement.
Conservatives define themselves in terms of what they oppose.
So much of my poetry begins with something that I can describe in visual terms so thinking about distance thinking about how life begins and what might be watching us.
The mystic purchases a moment of exhilaration with a lifetime of confusion and the confusion is infectious and destructive. It is confusing and destructive to try and explain anything in terms of anything else poetry in terms of psychology.
The musician - if he be a good one - finds his own perception prompted by the poet's perception and he translates the expression of that perception from the terms of poetry into the terms of music.
Dealing with poetry is a daunting task simply because the reason one does it as an editor at all is because one is constantly coming to terms with one's own understanding of how to understand the world.
I was surrounded by nature and trying to come to terms with this blissful nature versus the inhumane mentality of war. People were being deluded by someone using the word peace.
The Disarmament Conference has become the focal point of a great struggle between anarchy and world order... between those who think in terms of inevitable armed conflict and those who seek to build a universal and durable peace.
But in terms of how people live together how we minimize the prospects of conflict and maximize the prospects of peace the place of religion in our society today is essential.
Peace above all things is to be desired but blood must sometimes be spilled to obtain it on equable and lasting terms.
Most of us really aren't horribly unique. There are 6 billion of us. Put 'em all in one room and very few would stand out as individuals. So maybe we ought to think of worth in terms of our ability to get along as a part of nature rather than being the lords over nature.
In some mysterious way woods have never seemed to me to be static things. In physical terms I move through them yet in metaphysical ones they seem to move through me.
I'm a Cancerian the typical crab with the tough outer shell and the soft bit in the middle. I don't think I'll ever come to terms with people being unnecessarily nasty but I can take it if someone doesn't like my music - I'm not everyone's cup of tea.
We are also fortunate in being in quite a sheltered environment in terms of people moving on to do other things because there are relatively few companies in Scotland that are looking for the skill set that we've developed.
James Cameron has always been way ahead of the curve in terms of the use of technology in his movies.
In terms of number of movies I've been in an extraordinary amount. If you count only the minutes I'm onscreen it's not so long.
The novel succeeds on terms exclusive to literature. A good film succeeds on terms exclusive to the cinema. That's why so many bad novels can become good movies like 'Jaws' or 'The Godfather.'
In terms of the romantic kind of lead I just never enjoy those movies very much. Maybe they'll come to interest me more as I get older. I doubt it but maybe. Romantic comedies tend to be for me an oxymoron.
I learned that we can do anything but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do but when you do them. Timing is everything.
Just in terms of allocation of time resources religion is not very efficient. There's a lot more I could be doing on a Sunday morning.
Good morning is a contradiction of terms.
And we've got to ask ourselves some very serious questions as to whether or not certain religious leaders in terms of raising money - I hate to bring this up - are pushing hot buttons.
I do not suppose I shall be remembered for anything. But I don't think about my work in those terms. It is just as vulgar to work for the sake of posterity as to work for the sake of money.
Listen friends you have to face the truth: You are never going to be rich... The system is rigged in favor of the few and your name is not among them not now and not ever.
