Of course for many years directors have had to go on the road with their movies and promote them and I've done that since the beginning. So that's not new but the forms of it are different such as with the internet.
But when you're writing a script - for me anyway - you have to sort of create an enforced innocence. You have to divest yourself of worrying about a lot of stuff like what movies are hot what movies are not hot what the budget of this movie might be.
Television is where the best work for women is right now. I would love to do more movies but the reality is women have many more opportunities on television to play a greater variety of characters.

I'm always happy when I hear about people selling records or selling books or selling movies. It makes me proud of them.
I love all the old classic Disney movies. 'Pinocchio.' There are obviously tons of them that anybody growing up on that stuff takes with them their whole lives and I'm an admirer of a lot of classic animation and fairy tales. I grew up on a book of Grimm's fairy tales that I kind of wore out again and again. That's all stuff that lingers with you.
I think movies do play a valuable role in turning people on to the act of reading. I think that phenomenon just creates readers. At first they're going to love 'Harry Potter ' or they may love 'The Hunger Games ' but after that they're going to love the act of reading and wonder 'What else can I read?'
Family entertainment is really very necessary in our culture. Look how profitable they are. It's almost not discretionary. You need to take your family to the movies.
Obviously I love 'The Godfather' movies. I think they're phenomenal.
'Dr. Strangelove' was and is one of my favorite movies ever and I just can't believe they actually blew up the world after that.
The other two things are... well I had a huge appetite for old black and white movies on BBC 2. At the weekends they used to run matinees and the more romantic the better.
When I finally got up to Industrial Light And Magic to work on the 'Star Wars' movies as a model-maker it felt like dying and going to heaven.
The cardinal sin in sports what could really wreck it is not cheating to win which has gone on forever but cheating to lose. That threatens a fundamental aspect of sports' appeal which is their spontaneity. If games are fixed they're no different from movies they're scripted.
There's always an imbalance with actors and actresses in the industry. And I think because there are just fewer movies overall being made it's that trickle down effect.
I worked so hard for so long - I did a lot of movies. I also worked a lot when my kids were smaller before they were in school.
I did try to get a few of those teen high-school movies but they just didn't like me. I guess I wasn't a certain type.
But I don't think there has ever been anything written on the nature of violent man as deep and as thorough as Shakespeare's Titus. I think it puts all modern movies and modern exploitations of violence to shame.
Ever since 'Lassie' and 'Old Yeller' I won't watch animal movies. Animals in movies always die.
Movies are about escape.
You just never know when movies are going to take off or not. The lucky thing about this was that it didn't cost a lot of money and therefore there wasn't loads of pressure on me.
The guy that made me wanna make movies... and this is off the wall-is a guy named Michael Pal the British director.
I think movies are a director's medium in the end. Theater is the actor's medium. Theater is fast and enjoyable and truly rewarding. I believe in great live performance.
Books and movies are different art forms with different rules. And because of that they never translate exactly.
The movies that influenced me were movies that told their stories through pictures more than words.
