I'm so disturbed when my women students behave as though they can only read women or black students behave as though they can only read blacks or white students behave as though they can only identify with a white writer.

There's a certain kind of behavior in the Arab world that to me resembles the way young men behave when there is no significant influence from women in their lives.

The whole point of being in the Army is wanting to get killed wanting to test yourself to the limits. Now you have to fly 15 000ft above the war zone to avoid getting hit. I don't think there is any point in having wars if that's how you're going to behave. It's pathetic. All this whining!

Most of all I want people to question the old standard practices of 'This is how the structure of something should work ' or 'This is how a character must behave.'

The less I behave like Whistler's mother the night before the more I look like her the morning after.
